This year has been one of the most difficult years I’ve experienced in a long time. It was one of those years in which I felt I just couldn’t catch a break and with a fair share of losses. Most importantly I lost myself and my purpose along the way. Thankfully, towards the end of the year I discovered this feeling called gratitude and it changed everything.
From a Negative to a Positive Mindset
For a while, I focused on all the negative aspects in my life. However, after coming home to California from London; I’ve been doing a lot of self-searching. I began writing and reading beautiful words because I really needed to hear them. It brought me to this journey of discovering my inner peace, gratitude and a new level of self-love I’ve never felt before. I’ve always said we all need to love ourselves first, but I never really practiced what I so heavily preached, but now I understand the need for the self-love. It’s the only thing that keeps us going through the hardships.
2018 was a turbulent year but it was also full of lovely moments. Towards the end of the year, I re-learned forgiveness and I chose to focus on the positive. Although the feeling of uncertainty on what the future holds for me career wise and financially was prevalent this year; I realised all along I was blossoming. I didn’t see it before because my mind was overflowing by my own fears and anxiety of the future, but I was growing.
Aspirations for 2019
This year I am more aware that there’s more to life than stressing over careers and future goals. The journey to those goals is just as important. There’s no point in putting life on hold until I achieve those goals. This NY, instead of making unattainable goals, I just want to focus on the self. I will focus on my happiness, practice gratitude and be present. I will further my journey to self-discovery/awareness, continue to learn and grow and improve my productivity levels but not to the point that it affects my health. I’m working on being kinder and a better person to myself. I want to be passionate and give my all to everything I choose to lend my time too. Most importantly, I’m working on putting myself first because I genuinely believe this will help me find inner peace, I’m constantly but patiently seeking.
If your year was filled with losses please remember that everything that happens to you is always a lesson. Attempt to practice gratitude, even during your losses. How you respond to your losses only affects you, not anybody else. If you’re going through a particular tough time, remember that you won’t be sad forever. Even on your off days you deserve all the love in the world and most importantly you won’t ever have life figured out and that’s OK! All of these highs and lows are part of the journey and a part of your growth. Always, always, remember that you are flourishing during your journey; not just when you reach your goal.
2019 is the Year of Gratitude
Here’s to a New Year, same you but an improved you. A “you” filled with mindfulness, gratitude and an abundance of self-love. Whatever your goals or hopes are for this year, keep working hard to reach them. I realise that the journey will not be the easiest and sometimes you might want to give up but you shouldn’t. Pick yourself back up and keep going. Don’t forget to be kind to yourself along the way because your continuous growth is such an achievement. Change your mindset to a positive one, a loving one and a forgiving one, especially to yourself.
